Galicia is more than Santiago de Compostela

Map of Galicia | B&B’s in Galicia | Facts about Galicia

Green valleys and impressive beaches

Until a few years ago Galicia was one of the poorest parts of Western Europe.
Tourism plays an increasing role in the Galician economy.
The province is especially popular with the Spaniards themselves, especially those who want to escape the heat in the summer.

The capital Santiago de Compostela is the destination of the famous pilgrimage of Santiago.
The valleys are green and the beaches impressive.
On the Cantabrian and Atlantic coast there are impressive cliffs, such as on the Costa da Morte, or the national park of the Atlantic islands of Galicia.
There are many charming fishing villages and places in the interior or cities such as Santiago de Compostela, A Coruña, Ferrol, Lugo, Orense, Pontevedra or Vigo.

There are many spas and hot springs in the open air. You can also play sports at one of the golf courses or the water sports centers.

Food and drink

Typical products are dishes such as shellfish (crayfish, lobster, scallop, mussels, giant shrimps, etc.), beef, squid, pork shoulder with turnip stalks or Santiago’s cake.

There is nothing better than the best-known Galician wines, the Ribeiro and the Albariño (for which also two wine routes have been made) or the popular “queimada” (brandy ritual burned in an earthenware bowl).
