One of the European destinations with the largest variety of nature reserves, impressive monuments and a very extensive gastronomy
Rural tourism has become one of the main attractions for many travelers. There are hundreds of colorful towns that have preserved ancient traditions.
More than 40 protected nature reserves, of which the most famous is the national park of the Picos de Europa. Not to be missed cities include many other Avila, Salamanca and Segovia (all three World Heritage cities) and unique places and monuments such as the Cathedral of Burgos or the archaeological site of Atapuerca, with the traces of the first population centers in Europe.
The famous pilgrimage to Santiago also runs through Castile and Leon.
It is well known that Salamanca has the oldest university in Spain and it is also one of the most prestigious cities. Segovia should certainly not be skipped, because the Roman aqueduct is one of the jewels of Spanish historical architecture.
On the other hand, the excellent Alcázar Palace is one of the most beautiful castle fortifications in Europe. The Gothic cathedral stands out for its streamlined and proportional figure.
Near Segovia lies Ávila, a small cute town that is completely enclosed by the perfectly preserved medieval walls.
